Earlier this week, I installed the latest UVI workstation and Falcon updates. Now, none of my UVI instruments (Synth Anthology, Falcon, KeySuite, Modern D, Modern U) are editable in the UVI Workstation under Cantabile. My saved song settings work fine I just can’t change anything as the GUI is locked. These are the new VST3 files dated July 3 2026 which I installed on July 6. Everything works fine under the UVI Workstation standalone app under Windows 11.
The VST2 still works fine as this is an older version.
UVI support told me that they can’t recreate the problem but it’s not clear if they’re trying under Cantabile. They also suggested I try turning off the OpenGL rendering in UVI Workstation standalone, but it’s off and can’t be turned on.
They’ve sent me a link to an older installation package for UVI Workstation and Falcon which includes the VST3 files and I’ll probably try these unless anyone here has any suggestions.
I don’t find my self changing Modern D/U but need a working interface for the electronic stuff.
Anyone installed these new updates on Windows 11?
Update: I reinstalled Falcon using the link UVI support sent and it now works fine again under Cantabile Performer. The restored Falcon VST3 is date December 3, 2025. Again, the new one is dated July 3, 2026. I told them I’d wait for their response before replacing UVI workstation with the older version. If they insist there’s no problem I’ll go back a version and make a note to not install any more of their updates.
BTW- I needed to ‘replace’ my song plugin after the update. Just restarting Cantabile didn’t seem to recognize the new plugin which I find odd. Maybe you need a ‘slow scan’ of all plugins after the update?
UVI support says they can’t recreate the problem under Cantabile. I’m running the latest stable build and have asked them to confirm what build they’re testing. I’ve also sent them a snip showing I can’t change the OpenGL setting on Workstation (it’s off). Since they don’t seem to have any ideas and I’m not getting any responses here I’ll just go back to the previous version of UVI Workstation and avoid future updates. I usually like to keep current on updates but not when they break basic functionality.
So, I went back a version on UVI Workstation using their support link (VST3 file date 2025-12-03) and the Workstation GUI is no longer locked under Cantabile Performer 4 Build 4344.
Unfortunately, it broke Synth Anthology 5. I get this error loading any preset:
This script was created with a more recent version of UVIScript:23.
Synth Anthology 4 seems to work normally.
At this point I’m at the mercy of UVI support who have been responding every day but with minimal actual support. Their responses take 24 hours so it’s been painful.
So nobody has installed the latest UVI updates and tried them under Cantabile?
Thanks Vlad. I am running on Windows 11. An intel 7 Lenovo Tiny PC with nVidia graphics. All updates (Windows, BIOS, drivers) are current.
Again, switching back to the next most recent UVI Workstation/Falcon version restored plugin GUI functionality, though Syth Anthology 5 appears to need the version released this month.
I went back to the most current versions of UVI Workstation and Falcon and also updated the iLok manager to the most current version.
I don’t ever change my Modern D and U or Keyscape settings (I have a distinct Cantabile song set up for every keyboard in KeySuite), which I use more than the synth plugins. Since I can play them without changing settings it’s not a huge issue.
I own quite an extensive collection of non UVI synth packages which work fine so for the time being I’ll run the UVI synths standalone if I really want to use them but more likely they’ll just gather dust until I hear that there’s a solution for me to try.
If I had known, I wouldn’t have purchased the Synth Anthology 5 upgrade but it wasn’t a lot of money. I certainly won’t purchase any more UVI software until this is resolved.
Win 11 Pro (AMD Ryzen 3900X with old Nvidia GForce), Cantabile Performer 4344, UVI Workstation VST3 4.0.8, Modern D 1.1.
Everything works fine, and Modern D is fully editable. OpenGL is enabled.
I see complains online about the recent Falcon update (both Win and Mac). May be, there are some libs shared by Falcon and Workstation that cause this issue which does not reproduce when Falcon is not present? Or, may be, some settings in Falcon affect the Workstration. I do not have Falcon.
Thanks Vlad. Glad for you, though I was hoping someone else could recreate the problem.
My Cantabile, UVI Workstation VST3 and Modern D versions match yours exactly.
I’m also running W11 Pro with an nVidia t400 4gb card. The nVidia driver is dated 2026-05-07 so pretty recent.
I am not able to enable OpenGL in the Workstation preferences, so that is suspicious. I tried changing the Open GL rendering setting in the nVidia desktop control app from Auto to T-400 but still couldn’t enable OpenGL rendering in the standalone UVI workstation app, so changed it back to the default setting.
After I reinstalled the latest version of Falcon 2026 and UVI Workstation, Falcon is acting weird when run standalone. I’m getting errors loading most presets.
I’ve sent a lot of information to UVI and suggested we get together for a shared screen session but given the support I’m currently getting I’m not optimistic.
I guess I’ll wait for UVI. If they tell me to, I’ll uninstall and reinstall all their apps but won’t do any more unless it’s under their guidance. If they don’t have a solution I’ll just play Modern D/U and the Keysuite keyboards with my current settings and abandon Falcon and Synth Anthology 4/5 altogether until I hear UVI has new updates to try. Frankly, I think I prefer the interfaces and sounds on Serum, Phase Plant, Pigments, Diva, Arturia and Cherry Audio synths so I don’t think UVI Falcon and Synth Anthology will be greatly missed if there ends up not being a solution, though money was obviously lost.
If OpenGL cannot be enabled, then this might be a compatibility issue with Nvidia driver (which could be updated automatically without your knowledge BTW). I would try to unistall and reinstall the driver, UVI (including Portal), and Cantabile. But even this does not guarantee all leftovers were deleted.
Jon you mentioned in email that these issues might be related to “Windows Randsomware blocking” - by which I assume you mean Windows Controlled Folder Access? Can you provide some more details?
I’ve also written to my contact at UVI to see if he can provide any insight.
I don’t know if this is related to your problem, but I had issues with UVI workstation back in December. I have not tried updating since then. Here is my post:
I just tried opening an SA5 preset in the standalone UVI Workstation latest update (Win11 Pro) and experienced the same problem…no GUI and no audio. I seemed to be able to toggle the OpenGL option, but that didn’t help.
I then tried changing the scaling from 150% (I have a 32" 4K OLED monitor) to 100%. I clicked on another SA5 preset, and voilà! I had a fully operable GUI and audio!
Running at 100% makes some things more difficult to see, but it works. This would be good feedback to provide UVI.
EDIT: ALERT!!! I take back everything I just said. It wasn’t the scaling. I relaunched Workstation (now at 100%), clicked on an SA5 preset and? Nothing. No GUI. No audio. I clicked on another preset and voilà, GUI and audio! I changed back to 150% scaling, retested and got the same result. Nothing on the first preset. GUI and audio on all presets selected after the first one. So, if you launch Workstation with a saved preset, you’ll get the Black Screen of Death until you load another preset.
As the problem started immediately after the UVI update and goes away after reverting to the prior version I’m fairly certain the problem isn’t with graphics drivers or Cantabile. I will uninstall UVI Workstation and Falcon once UVI confirms the procedure for eliminating all traces. Then I’ll try a fresh install.
Brad- Was this me? I don’t recall this conversation. In any event, I just tried running Cantabile as administrator which should take care of any file access permissions and it didn’t free up the GUI.
Sorry I’m getting my wires crossed with different users reporting the same issue.
In any case, I’ve had reports that at least one user that at least some of these issues have been rectified by disabling Windows “Controlled Folder Access”
Controlled Folder Access is set off by default and has to be turned on. In my case I’m not running defender as I have Norton 360 and Malwarebytes. I checked my settings for both of these and there is no Ramsonware protection at the folder level.
I tried turning off Norton Autoprotect but it didn’t resolve the problem.
The support I’ve been getting from UVI is very first level. Each day when I get up there’s a one line response either asking a question or suggesting something for me to look at which has not been relevant. There’s a 24 hour lag untl the next communication.
I’ve asked several times for escalation. There are a number of specific features for this issue:
The problem is only under Cantabile using the current VST3, not standalone
The problem affects both Workstation and Falcon VST3s (2026-07-03)
The problem was not present under the previous releases of Workstation and Falcon (2025-12-03). Retested by a reinstall of the old version and then reinstall of the current version.
The problem prevents editing of any of the GUI controls, but both Workstation and Falcon GUIs are rendered with their last saved settings and are otherwise fully functional with these settings in the most current release of Cantabile
I guess the problem is bigger than just UVI or Cantabile on its own.
The most recent update of VSL Synchron Pianos Player crashes Cantabile when I switch to a song that includes this plugin, or when I open Cantabile by clicking on cantabileSong file in Windows Explorer if the song includes this plugin.
Synchron Pianos Player standalone also crashes when I try to switch piano lib/preset using thumbnails (but does not crash when I switch presets using its preset folder view). I do not experience this issue when I use Synchron Player.
However, when I insert Synchron Pianos Player plugin to a song that did not have it - it loads fine (with default preset), and works fine until I try to switch piano (see scenarios from the above).
May be there is a bug, incompatibility, or conflict introduced by either updates in some library used by both VSL and UVI, or in some recent Windows update (.Net, whatever)
VSL confirmed the bug in Synchron Pianos Player, and gave me the link to the beta version of the fix. After a quick test I can confirm that it resolves all the issues I reported above. I guess it will be released to the general public soon.
Therefore we can assume that UVI suffers from something more complicated.
