Cantabile 4300 - Tech Update

It's time to move on! Cantabile 4300 is a technology update that:

  • Moves to latest version of Microsoft build tool-chain
  • Moves to .NET 8.0
  • Drops support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
  • Drops support for 32-bit (aka x86) Windows

Other Changes

Aside from the underlying tech changes, build 4300 should be identical in functionality to build 4225 with the following minor exceptions:

  • The platform (x86/x64) is no longer displayed in the title bar, about page or monitor panel.  It can only be x64 so no point displaying it.
  • The Windows start menu short-cut to launch Cantabile no longer includes "x64".
  • The "Cantabile Portal" menu commands have been renamed to "Cantabile Account".
  • The installer works the same as the previous version, except it will remove any previous 32-bit installation.
  • When Cantabile is first launched after running the installer you'll no longer be prompted whether to run the x86 or x64 edition.
  • You can still manually install from a .zip file from the release notes pages - but there's no longer separate 32 and 64-bit packages, just the 64-bit version.

Website Update

Also, you might notice the Cantabile website has had a little freshen up - most noticeably it now supports dark mode if you have that option selected in your browser.

Available Now

This is all available now - but should be considered experimental.  Let me know if you find any issues.

I know been discussed at length, but absolutely right thing to do. Wondering if anyone seeing any performance improvements as a consequence of .NET 8?

I have that option selected, and it works in other websites, not in this one

And I receive this alert…

What browser are you using?

As for the subscription notification, send me an email and we’ll take it from there.

Google Chrome
Versione 134.0.6998.179

Dark mode for the website works without a problem with Chrome 134.0.6998.178 and 135.0.7049.42 on my system. But the forum stays in light mode - maybe that’s what @Clap is addressing?

Maybe
I see a dark area on the top, but the rest is light

That’s the forum - not the Cantabile web site that @brad referred to

Ooops, sorry, I believed it was the forum

The forum is next on the list for darkification.

The funny thing is that, in the Scaler forum, most users are angry because the theme is dark…

Indeed, for people like me, with a not-so perfect sight, the contrast between the font colour and the background colour is important, not the theme colour

And there are other people, colour-blind person for example, that have other needs, clearly

When I build my last website, I searched for the matter and found a lot of variations in the way different people see the text in a GUI or a webpage

I cross all my fingers, feet included, but this set seems solid

And my PC is quiet

But latency is not an issue to me, so I set the ASIO as I usually do

Now I’ll try to use the minimum value to stress the beta more…

Here is the minimum value that my system copes with: never seen before, also in my DAW :astonished:

It’s definitely a personal preference, so:

  • Cantabile (app) includes selectable dark/light themes
  • Cantabile website will follow the browser provided user preference
  • Cantabile forum - changes coming soon See here.

This is the smart move of smart developers

Anyway, my one-man-band & zero-audience gig’s set above keeps working without crashing  and it means that the stability of this beta is improved

So, I am eventually able to get rid of my Bitwig 5 Producer upgrade, currently discounted on KnobKloud, if interested
