Leaving this here for anyone else experiencing this very specific problem with Zenology (like future me after I forget how I fixed it this time). Yeah yeah, I know, stop using Roland Cloud, it’s a pain. But Zenology is my “everything else” plugin that does the job of 10 others.
After my laptop nearly died and required open case surgery just before a show to even turn on, I decided it was a good time to relegate it to backup and buy a new one. I keep all my Cantabile files in Dropbox for just such an occurance, but after loading up the new computer, Zenology was crashing Cantabile. This is, of course, Zenology’s favorite thing to do, but for once it wasn’t due to authorization issues.
- Loading songs or (linked) racks with Zenology crashed
- Loading a fresh instance of Zenology did not crash.
- Loading Zenology and then importing the Cantabile snapshot bank did crash (Preset Model: Entire Plugin Snapshots).
- Loading Zenology and then importing individual snapshots sometimes worked and sometimes crashed, but narrowed the problem to only User patches.
- I had already made sure all the versions of everything matched, had the same sound banks installed, and exported/imported my User preset bank from the “Write” menu in Zenology.
As it turns out, old computer actually had two User banks in Zenology - the first one was unused and called “INIT,” all of my patches were in the second one called “User.” Naturally, I had only copied “User” to the new computer. I don’t know if it needs to have the same number of banks with all the same names, or if it just needs to be in the same position - but I added a dummy “INIT” bank and moved the “User” bank after it, and it worked.
The more you know…
