Hi everyone. These months I’ve start using Cantabile and virtual instruments for live performance. The result is excellent and I can use fantastic piano and el. piano sounds (like the Ravenscroft and Scarbee mark I). I’m currently using Yamaha CP4 as a controller. My idea now was to build a different setup with a very lightweight keyboard, for easy carriage: a possible choice is the Yamaha P45. Due to its almost complete lack of controls I considered to add a midi controller: I have seen, for instance, the novation launch control ( https://us.novationmusic.com/launch/launch-control# ).
Of course, I would use this setup with Cantabile (performer)
Since I’m a beginner with this kind of equipment (expecially with midi controllers), I would ask some elementary question about a similar setup:
can I easily assign (using the bindings in Cantabile or otherwise) to the launch control two keys ( + and - 1 semitone) for the transpose function?
can I assing to that midi controller functions like rack state (play-silent) and rack volume for each rack used in a song?
Appreciated any suggestion about different hardware, too…
I’m not familiar with that device’s capabilities off hand, but assuming you can configure the controller to send some kind of standard midi event you should be bind to the transpose settings fairly easily. eg: suppose you had two buttons on cc 16 and 17, something like this would work:
thank you very much brad!
the only thing to understand, then, is if these controllers can send standard midi events… I don’t know how this kind of hardware works, it is often associated (even in product presentation) with Ableton or other DAW… I suppose they are made for recording rather then live use… but I don’t know… I will ask about…
ok Brad, perfect… thank you…
Hi dave_dore, thank for the help: yes, I was aware of this function, but I have no midi controller so far, so I have not yet tried it…
