Wire "fly-offs" or wire "tags"

I work with audio and control systems such as Q-Sys and BSS Soundweb and in that software there is a very helpful concept of wire fly-offs or wire tags. As a user you can either draw a connecting wire, much the same way it’s done in Cantabile, or you can use a input/output pair of connectors with invisible wire. Clicking on an output fly-off will either highlight the other end or jump and focus the view to it. For large setups, wire tags are invaluable in keeping the work space neat and clear to follow.
My suggestion is, could we have an option of making the connecting wires transparent until you click on an output or input, then the wire becomes visible and can be followed. An option to name the input/output connector would be best.
To illustrate, here is a screen shot of a Q-Sys project that has some processing objects wired with regular line style connectors, and some with wire tags. The cool part is wire tags can span separate tabs in the project and one output wire tag can have multiple destination input wire tags.
