Just wanted to put out a small warning that there might be issues with Cantabile on Windows 10 Anniversary Edition.
I’ve now received two reports and know of at least three machines where Cantabile’s main window doesn’t update correctly after switching songs. In all cases this is on Win10 Anniversary.
I don’t have a fix nor workaround right now and I’m still looking into it.
I’m the meantime it might be best to avoid the Win 10 Anniversary Update. See this article under “how to postpone” for more.
Finally, if anyone is running win 10 anniversary I’d be interested in hearing if Cantabile works correctly or not for you.
UPDATE: I’ve been testing here with Windows 10 Anniversary and haven’t been able to reproduce any issues so far. On the test machine however I’m using NVidia drivers, whereas I think the machines giving problems might be using Intel drivers.
UPDATE 2: About 90% certain now this is a problem with the Intel display drivers under Windows 10 Anniversary edition. All other tests with non-Intel drivers don’t show any problems.
At this stage I’m treating this as a driver issue unrelated to Cantabile and hopefully they fix it soon.
Strange this happened to me yesterday on Windows 10586.545 (which I do not think is the anniversary build), Cantabile 3200, with ATI Radeon 5400 card and drivers.
Was using Cantabile again tonight, and it was fine.
Symptoms yesterday were screen not fully updating. E.g. select a song via external bindings, and the info bar at top of screen would update with the next song highlighted, but setlist view wouldn’t update, or would update in strange ways like showing two songs as selected. I had to hit F5 twice to get the screen to update. Same problem when updating bindings in background rack. Things got into a real mess there, and I first thought the program had hung due to lack of screen update.
But I also had several crashes yesterday when adding media files to songs and at least one other time when updating background rack bindings (but I was getting stressed out getting a new show ready, so pressed on), which is a little worrying for software that needs to be rock solid on stage (I don’t think I ever had a crash with Cantabile 2). Brad, in future I will try and be more diligent with crash reporting, but yesterday was really not a good day to spend time being diligent! If there may be crash dumps associated with those crashes, let me know where to look and I will see if I can dig out.
Sorry to hear you’re having these troubles. Weird that you would get temporary display update issues. Any chance you switching from battery to mains or something like that between the two sessions?
As for the crashes - I’d need to see the logs to say what it might be. Assuming Cantabile prompted to send them and you cancelled, then they should be still available. Go to Cantabile -> Tools -> Open Settings Folder and you should see 1 zip file for each crash. Please send them to me.
No, this is my music studio computer which is permanently on mains, with no change in config between sessions. I am building a new show on this computer (easier) before moving it onto the click track laptop we use on gigs.
I’ll look for the crash dumps when I next power the computer up, but am away on business for a few days. So it will be later in the week before I can get to do that.
i can confirm that Cantabile’s main window doesn’t update correctly after switching songs.
I have all latest updates from Windows 10 Anniversary Edition (1607). Had this problems since cantabile 3203, i think. Yesterday i had no probs, today i installed the latest build.
I have Intel Graphic Drivers.
Hrm… maybe it’s not limited to Intel drivers then. I’m a bit stumped because I can reproduce it on any of my machines here. Also, nothing in the screen rendering parts of Cantabile has changed for a long time.
I’ll try again today and see if I can reproduce it.
I do not use Windows 10 Anniversary Edition and I do not use an Intel displays driver and I have the same problem. I have two computers, desktop and notebook, two machines designed and optimized for audio and the problem are not my computers. I am running a lot of music related programs and Cantabile is the only program that shows this problem.

During past months, windows users have come up with reports on the problem of being unable to load any further VST plug-ins, when working on projects that already have many plug-ins loaded. Reportedly, insert slots remain empty when loading further plug-ins. OS X users seem not to be affected by this issue.
Our investigation has indicated that a technical limitation, apparently built-in to Windows, may cause the problem. We now seek to get together with Microsoft and third-party VST plug-in manufacturers to push for the problem’s solution.
Soon as there are findings at hand, we will give you further notice on this issue."
I started a short experiment: I created a setlist with 3 song with only one plugin. There was no problem to change the songs. Then I added 3 songs with many plugins. Result: there was the problen to change between the songs with many plugins!
Just as an extra data point, I’m running Win 10 Anniversary Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.105) on my studio desktop machine, with Nvidia graphics card, and Cantabile appears to run perfectly fine - no issues so far.
Slightly reluctant go allow the update on my live rig machines, but I don’t have any gigs for a month, so I’ll probably go for it and see. I’ll report back with what happens.

Update: Allowed the anniversary edition to install on one of my live rig machines, which has an Intel Pro Graphics 5200 chipset, and everything appears to work fine (although I had to re-authorise Cantabile). No weird display issues, no apparent problems loading large numbers of plugins etc. Phew…

That’s what on my Notebook works since for two days, then not…
I had a gig yesterday…
It was very tricky!
My condolences, I can totally empathize. Probably I was lucky, or because I do not have Windows Anniversary approved. Anyway, both on my laptop and on my desktop the setlists function properly again.

Could anyone else who’s still having this problem please try Cosmo’s suggestion of uninstalling the mentioned updates and let me know if it resolves the problem for them.
