Where Is Fred and who is Mrs Trurl?

Our Friend, Fred Schendel, from Glass Hammer hasn’t chimed in for awhile. We had many chats together through the years, and I knew something was wrong. Then he stopped chatting.
In my searches for information, I found Fred has been recording on his own. I got an email today about the new Glass Hammer album, but from their site, Fred was not listed on the album.
He released two albums last year under the name Trurl, which is him and …Mrs Trurl? He is playing all the instruments and singing with the Mrs.
I immediately noticed his picture, and he has lost a tremendous amount of weight.

I hope he is doing well, and creating more gems.
I miss his input, and hope he comes back to the forum.

The announcement for the Glass Hammer new album in the latest PROG magazine only pictures Steve Babb, whereas previous announcements also had our Fred and other members pictured.

I get the feeling that Glass Hammer is now more of a loose collective orchestrated by Steve?

But I agree, I miss Fred and his offbeat presence.

Very nice! I always did like Missing Persons. My favorite part about the era was the humor that didn’t take itself too seriously.

Hey, well I guess the universe moves in mysterious ways LOL I hit the link for this forum by mistake and didn’t realize I hadn’t been here in that long and was kind of shocked and honored to find out that there was a thread about me!

Anyway that picture was from 2010, yeah, have put a lot of weight back on.

Steve has indeed moved on with Glass Hammer which I’m sure will do very well, I never heard that last album even though I guess I’m on it on one song and I have no real interest and I don’t know what’s going on with the new one. Although I think I will wind up having a little guitar show up that I played. :man_shrugging:t2:
Mrs Trurl is actually my wife and hopefully we’ll do some more stuff, we’ve been working on a stoner/doom type project which has been rather enjoyable. I’m not super happy with that mix of the synth pop song, I really should replace it.
The un*mutual album I simply put up there with no fanfare or promotion, I sort of feel if anybody accidentally finds their way to it and enjoys it that’s great but I’m just not interested in putting any effort in to anything at all related to music. I don’t want to expect anybody to enjoy it except for myself. It was an enjoyable thing to do though, it started in the early days of the pandemic and then had vocals added to it about a year later and then actually got mixed about a year after that. So even though it took 3 years it wasn’t 3 years of continuous work. But it was designed to be a very retro homage to Gentle Giant and Van Der Graff Generator.

So that’s it, I haven’t really been hanging out cause I don’t perform and I don’t need Cantabile. But if I ever get that stoner album done I’ll let you know

@FredProgGH - glad you’re working on something fun. Listened to Whirled Peas on YouTube Music (posted under TheFusiac) - who’s playing bass on the that tune? If that’s you…wow!

EDIT - bass playing is Tony Levin - right? :grinning:

That bass was- drumroll- Scarbee Black Bass. I play bass like a cut-rate Geezer Butler, which is cool but not on a Vic Wooten plane :joy:
I think I did that song as a Scarbee demo and then never send it to him

Us bass players are doomed :rofl:

I play Bass near to Tim Bogert, but want to sound like Flea! No stage acrobatics for me, unfortunately. Jaco would be quite a challenge.

And that was 2008
