The thread has deviated a bit from the original question , but my setup (as of now) is
Midi controller → pc → audio card → xr18 → foh
I will insert the di just after the audio card

I would never connect directly to FOH, for safety reasons at the very least.
The outputs of my XR-18 go to a custom (Orchid) isolator box that takes two balanced inputs and produces both balanced line and mic levels on separate output sockets. It’s up to FOH which they choose.
No hum, no noise, no problems to date.
Hi everyone - let me add that at the end I purchased a passive DI, with gain=1 : yesterday I had my first gig and everything was clear & nice .
So, at least for my case, this is a working solution (but your mileage may vary of course)
