Using exe synthes with VST synthes

Hello everyone
Does anyone know if it’s possible to create a song containing .exe synths? Cantabile sees my VST synths, but not the .exe synths. I’m missing something.
Thanks for your replies.

Welcome @Alain

What EXE synths are you talking about? I’m not aware of many synths that aren’t available in VST as well, and with Cantabile there is generally no need to use them. If you do you could potentially use a loopback type strategy for these, but you’d be reliant on starting them up outside of Cantabile.

Perhaps getting a list of the EXE’s you’re talking about and the scenario would let us help you more.

Hello PatAzzMusic
Thanks for your quick response.

  1. I have the synths Modwave Native, Opsix Native, and Wavstate Native, which are in .exe format and don’t have a DLL file.
  2. I have an organ software program, GrandOrgue, which doesn’t have a DLL.
Setting up this software is cumbersome; you have to map the three keyboards each time, etc. I was counting on Cantabile to create a song with everything pre-prepared.
If we can’t, we’ll do without, too bad.
    Musically, Alain

Hi,

As @PatAzzMusic says all synths usually have a VST option and that is definitely the case in the three Korg Synths you mention as I extensively use MODWAVE and Wavestate Native in my Cantabile sets. Have also got OPSIX Native, but I am less inspired with that, but I have ran it as a plugin.

The Korg Native synths are only available in VST3 plugin format and the plugins are installed in the default location. On my PC that is as shown below in the Explorer Path

And you may need to check that Cantabile is looking in the VST folder. E.g. do you have the following search path under Plugin Options?

I can’t speak for GrandOrgue, but on a quick search I found no mention of VST. Have you considered something like Moddart OrganTeq, which would play a lot more nicely as a VST?

ooops… crossed threads with Derek.

This forums brain trust may have a lot more information and experience here to share, but I did some digging and I don’t know if this is any help, but…

The GrandOrgue is opensource and doesn’t have a VST counterpart. This could be due to licensing fees, etc, but with the appropriate version of Cantabile you can create a rack that would have what you need so you don’t have a lot of “messing around” every time you want to use it. Assuming that GrandOrgue has MIDI implementation documentation you should be able to send program changes, etc to it through Cantabile.

It appears that the Korg “Native” apps actually come with a VST. It’s likely that either the plugins were not installed because the setup program opted out of installing them (or alternatively by default they VST installation is not enabled), or *more likely * were installed in a different location and Cantabile needs to point to that location. Many setup programs are written so that the defaults aren’t use correctly.

Thanks, Derek, and PatAzzMusic for your help.
It’s okay, I didn’t provide the path for the VST3s.
I only want to keep the Grand Orgue (Church Organ) left.
PatAzzMusic, would “Cantabile Solo” allow me to create a rack in which I could include GranOrgue?
Because I currently have the free version.
