Not looking for a HUB, I’m looking for a device that takes a USB MIDI output from the keyboard, and allows them to be connected to two separate laptops as a hot-backup solution.
Any one have experience wtih seomthing like that?

USB MIDI is a two-way thing, the pc connects to the device, and in effect they have a conversation with each other about device capabilities etc. This can’t happen with two PCs at the same time.
I think you should look at 5-oin MIDI, that’s easy to split to two PCs (must be a handful of vendors here). Downsides is having to provide power to your keyboard.
Some devices convert standard “class-conpliant” usb MIDI into 5-pin MIDI e.g. CME, that you can then split to two MIDI interfaces, one for each PC. not sure this is best approach.
Finally there is at least one Usb hub with a switch to select between two host PC connections.
Got it. I didn’t know whether or not the 2 way was absolutlye required, and I thought about the 5 pin MIDI interface as well, but was hoping there was another solution as I was concerned about the latency round trips.
I’ll play with the 5 pin DIN idea.
What about an audio interface that provides hot backup, like the iConnectivity ones?
I’ll take a deeper look at those (quick review seemed interesting), but right now I’m thinking the most economical solution is to have a laptop running in parralel and swap out the USB cables if I have a failure. It really doesn’t happen often - I was more wondering if there was such a device out there.
