I’ve turned off Power Mgmt options as I always did with previous laptops but my laptop keeps turning the power mgmt / put USB ports to sleep options back on. It’s bedeviling. I had some luck after it not being connected for to internet for a while, but when I updated Cantible and a couple of plugins, Windows turned that power mgmt stuff back on. Any way to permanently preventive this? It’s labor intensive to keep checking all of those settings in the device mgr. Thanks for any tips!
This is usually caused by Windows Update. My way to prevent these problems is to disable Windows Update.
A bit extreme, but it works.
Thanks. I did turn off Windows Update, I thought. Seems like 5 weeks is the limit at any given time. I guess I just have to make sure it’s off before connecting to the internet.
I use this tool to completely disable Windows Update and other Windows 10/11 features.
Please be warned that improper use may cause Windows to malfunction.
Understood. Thx.
When you mean you turned it off in the power management, did you mean that you went into the device manager and stopped it from there. If not, kill it in the device manager. It was making my Samsung T7 drive unresponsive.
Yes, I went into the advanced power management panel, saw that USB device power management (Suspend) was not on the list. I went to a YoutTube that told you how to edit the registry to make that option appear in the Advanced Power mgmt panel. Then, I suspended all power mgmt for USB ports from that newly added control.
Best,
Keith
