Triggering some wav files

Hello,
What are you using to trigger some simple wav files (Mainly some percussive effects and prepared to be as I want) ?
Currently I’m simply using the media player, and use a midi trigger to start reading the .wav file, but sometimes the end seems to be ugly cut, and sometimes I feel the timing is no so accurate…
Should a rather use a sampler for this ? Something really simple to use ?

Thanks a lot !
Regards
Frederic

Welcome to Cantabile Forum.

I use either Grace by OneSmallClue or the Cantabile Media Player (like you are doing now). I’ve never noticed delays with the media player.

Hello,
OK, I understand that I’m not wrong with the media player. I probably need to check and better adjust my .wav files to have better starts and stops.

Thanks a lot
Frédéric

FWIW you can trim the wav file to size in the timeline window using the L brackets. You just click and drag them to the position you want. There is also a zoom function on the hamburger menu in the timeline window on the upper right corner to get real precise.

Typically, I trim the waves files in an external editor.

External editor for sure. That is what I do. Much easier than struggling within the media player.

I simpley use the media player, and can’t say I’ve seen playback problems. It is fine for my occasional sample trigger/play need.

As mentioned above, use an external editor to ensure that you have a nice clean sample that has no excess silence at the start does not truncate.

Thanks a lot for all these infos. At the moment it’s very occasional so the media player seems to be OK for this !

Thanks!
Frédéric

If you happen to use Kontakt, version 8 now has a media player which could be used in Cantabile. I stumbled on it a few days ago, and there are ways to trigger and adjust them on the fly. I never used it for anything except for hosting resident instruments. It has now become a great tool box for live performance and recordings. Being short on time, I didn’t go deep into it. That is for another day.
