for each guitar I have an input rack. in this I handle things like gain staging, some basic eq/compression etc.
I am using this as a initial setup in every song. something similar for the output section. (headphone/power cab, studio monitor, etc)
After that I have routed to mij main song rack for a particular sound or song with tonex or nam a2. When I switch guitar I just switch to my corresponding guitar input rack without the need to make changes to my main rack.
I am looking for a simple way to switch between those racks via midi or hotkey but canât find a way how to do this.. As far as I can discover you canât asign a midi id to a named rack to set focus on that rack or something like that..
I use one single input rack for all of my guitars, but with different rack states, depending on the guitar I use. Mainly, I change the input level and some EQ for my various guitars. My Tele gets a level boost and a bit of an EQ mid hump for more drive, so doesnât completely fall off against my PRS. I typically use one guitar during a gig; the Tele is just a backup for the PRS. When I break a string on my PRS, I just grab the Tele, switch the input rack to its âTeleâ state and go on playing. I have set the input rack so that its rack state isnât controlled by the containing song, so I only need to make that change once, and it stays across songs (preloaded setlist). The rack is saved in the âPRSâ state, so thatâs how I start on every gig.
Swapping out a rack inside a song in a live situation is not a good approach; this causes quite a bit of re-constructing and disruption inside Cantabile. Thatâs why there are no bindings (keyboard or MIDI) for such changes. Far easier to build one input rack with different configurations using rack states and then simply change the rack state - something that can be done easily using bindings.
in my âstudioâ I would like to use streamdeck to make those switches or midi controler also so I would like to have one single action in which I can make that switch. (not picking up my mouse, navigate etc. but one klick to disable the active one and enable the other)
probably a misunderstanding for me. I thought a global rack that inputs or outputs to/from songs wasânt possible. ( => a rack is always routed within a song)
Looks like the workflow you suggest is only possible within Performer though..
Correct for the moment - @brad is working on a global input and output rack, but currently such input and output racks need to reside within songs (unless you want to incur additional latency by using loopback ports for such racks within the background rack).
So my guitar input rack sits within all my songs that use guitar input (most of my songs are keyboard-only, but a decent number are also guitar-based) as the first rack.
Such a single action can be configured using bindings, either keyboard-based or MIDI-based. Youâll need a binding that toggles between two rack states of the input rack, or, if you have more than two guitars, cycles through the rack states. You can bind that to a button on your MIDI controller or a simply key press.
You are correct - rack and song states and everything to do with them is a Performer feature.
If you are using Cantabile Solo, you could have multiple embedded racks in your song and use bindings to activate/de-activate them - means youâd have to have all of them in your song file at the same time, just only have one of them active.
