Super MIDI Idjut here. Does Cantabile work in a DAW?

Hi. I’m pretty new to MIDI but I’ve heard that Cantabile can work with the IK B-3X software. However, my problem is I need to control my Studio Logic NC2X keyboard within Cubase 14. Does Cantabile work within a DAW environment or is it strictly a Desktop interface software?

I’ve looked at the Manual and I don’t see any reference to using Cantabile with any DAW software.

FWIW, my real issue in Cubase is that it does not recognize the 9 Sliders (B-3X Drawbars) on the NC2X. Cubase will not recognize the sliders - although it does latch to the Fast/Slow and Brake functions in the B-3X and automatically connects to the 12 key Hammond Presets. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cantabile is a stand-alone application, not a plug-in that can work within a DAW.

There are ways to connect Cantabile with a DAW using virtual audio and MIDI ports, but TBH that’s something for pretty advanced users and definitely not something I’d recommend to a self-proclaimed “Super MIDI Idjut”

Torsten, thank you for the response. So I’m thinking that Cantabile is made more for the performing player using a laptop maybe? Although, yes, I see that you also have a recording option with a metronome. A good tool for many ppl, I’m sure.

Exactly - this is what it is designed for: “Cantabile is a powerful and flexible VST host designed for live performing stage musicians who want to perform better.” (Cantabile home page).

The recording option is just a small addition, in case you want to capture what you are playing in Cantabile, but it is not Cantabile’s main focus.

Hi Retsoor,

I was the one who recommended you look at Cantabile. I thought you were performing using Cubase. I also didn’t realize that the Numa Compact 2x has onboard sounds.

One thing that might help troubleshoot your issue where Cubase is not seeing the sliders is to install Cantabile, connect the NC2X, add B-3X and then under the Input Ports section at the top you should see the Numa listed. Right click on that line and choose Midi Monitor and then move the sliders - hopefully you will see in the MIDI monitor what controller number the sliders are using.
