I have been using PC midi for the longest time from my Songbook to set Cantabile. I noticed that the new song program I am using has extended midi functions including Song Selection.
I found some old discussion in the forum. I did find my Nano Cortex was triggering on PC for ny songs so I simply created a range without conflict.
I am going to rebuild my set up anyway. Should I try out using Song Select?
I’d recommend against it - a couple of reasons:
-
Song Select is limited to 128 songs - that’s it. Once your repertoire in Cabtabile becomes more than that, you need to split up setlists. With program change, you can have thousands of songs in your list, using bank select messages
-
Song Select is a system common message - it applies to all devices in your setup. Program change can be directed to individual devices by using different MIDI channels
-
managing banked program changes just feels easier to handle in Cantabile
If your Nano Cortex reacts to PC messages to Cantabile, I’d recommend using different MIDI input channels between the Nano and Cantabile. That should address the issue (unless you have more than 16 devices in your MIDI setup)
Cheers
