Show Notes Improvements (compared to other programs)

Hi Brad, Hello Cantabile Community,

first of all: Cantabile still is excellent as a live host …

… but competitors never sleep …

One area that still feels limited to me is Show Notes. For simple text reminders they are fine, but for actual live use as a lyrics / notation / song-structure display, they are not quite there yet.

What would be especially useful for me:

  • zoom / scalable text size
  • true auto-scroll with adjustable speed
  • reliable pedal- or binding-controlled scrolling and page navigation
  • support for additional formats such as PDF, Markdown, HTML and possibly ChordPro
  • a dedicated performance view for lyrics / cues / song structure
  • clearer section markers or layout options for verse / chorus / bridge / cues
  • support for external text files with auto-reload
  • generally a more comfortable “on stage” reading experience

For my use case, this would make Cantabile even more self-contained and reduce the need for separate software for lyrics, notes or set-flow display during live performance.

I thought I’d send this as concrete user feedback, because I suspect this area could become very valuable for many live players.

Best regards,
Christoph

Hi Christof
There is a tool called live prompter which comes pretty close to what you are describing.
If I remember right, this is a connection of Brad’s but I am not 100% sure !
It’s capable of taking midi clock to controll scrolling etc.
I like the display and scrolling it has.
Cheers

The tool is called LivePrompter:

I built it, and I’m giving it away for free :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

It doesn’t take MIDI clock, but the scrolling mechanism is pretty sophisticated. It integrates well with Cantabile, either via MIDI or via the Cantabile API.

I think Christoph is aware of LivePrompter, but I respect the wish to have it all within Cantabile. In fact, I have made my rendering code from LivePrompter available to @brad, so if he wants to use it in Cantabile, I’m all for it.

Cheers,

Torsten
