I have a song that contains all of my Superior Drummer 3 presets. And I’m using the “entire plugin snapshot” preset model, which I believe is the only model that works with Superior Drummer 3 user presets.
Is there a way to have a change made to a preset in one song be present in that preset in the other song? As it is if I make a change to a preset in one song I have to remember to change that preset in the other song. Said another way, I would like the presets state to be not dependent on the song.
as far as I understand, the entire preset bank (when using “entire plugin snapshot”) is saved into the song file (or rack file if the plugin is contained in a rack). Therefore, each song (or rack) has its own copy of the preset bank.
Therefore, one way to get the same preset bank available in different songs is to put the plugin into a linked rack and share the rack between the different songs.
If you want to import the bank from a song into another, without using a rack, you have to export the entire bank you want to share into a bank file and then load the file into another song (using the “Export bank” plugin menu entry in the first song and the “Import bank” entry in the second).
As usual, make a backup of your songs before you try anything!

Edit: if you use states, this adds another layer of complexity. What’s saved into a state depends on the “State behaviour” flags. You could choose to save an entire bank into a state or just the selected Program (which is the same as the preset we are talking about…the term Program, I guess, is used to try to remove some ambiguity, since a plugin usually has its own internally managed “presets”).
Thanks Gabriel, so I think I need to upgrade to Cantabile Performer?
“Shared Racks - in Performer racks can be shared across songs so the same plugin instances can be re-used in different songs and don’t need to be reloaded when switching songs.”
That’s correct. You need Performer to use shared racks. I guess you could start a trial period for Performer and then go back to Solo if you change your mind after a few weeks of testing (I do not remember the exact duration of a trial).
OTOH, exporting/importing the entire bank, to make the same presets available in two different songs, should work in Solo, too.
But exporting/importing the entire bank to make the presets available in two songs is a one-time event right, so that if I change a preset in song #1 is will not be changed in song #2?
You have to manually repeat the operation every time you want to synchronize the two songs preset-wise.
If you change a preset in a song, it will not change the same preset in the other song until you manually export the bank from the first and import it into the second.
On the contrary, with Performer and shared racks, changing a preset in a song affects any song using the same shared rack.
