Recognize FBV Express MKII pedal

I have a FBV Express MKII pedal that I use to switch states and as expression pedal. Since a few weeks Cantabile does not see the pedal immediately and I have to disconnect/connect the USB connection. After that it is recognized and everything works fine. The worry I have is that at some crucial moment it is not recognized at all, and I cannot change states with it. If I look into the device list of Windows 11 it turns up all fine. Somebody an idea what could be reason for this,
thanks,
Joop

I’ve had the same experience with that pedal. I thought at one point that it had to do with connecting through an unpowered hub (since i wasn’t seeing the problem with my home rig which has a powered hub), but then found i had the same issue using a powered hub.
On the upside, once the pedal is talking to Cantabile after re-plugging, i’ve never had a problem with it losing connection, so at least you needn’t worry about that.

I’ve never had a problem with that pedal in the 6 yrs I used it. I have it as a device in options and in Background Rack as an overall switch for states, and song switching. I also use a non-powered hub containing the pedal, a second keyboard controller, and a mouse. I ALWAYS use the same midi port for each of my other devices. I do not switch ports, to avoid the Windows porting issues.

Thanks for the response! Gives some confidence not to worry too much. Further I’m quite happy with the pedal. With the large buttons there is less change to take the wrong one.
I plug the pedal directly into the mini-PC with Cantabile, always the same USB port, never change midi settings of the pedal.
Could there be some reason Cantabile does not recognize immediately the pedal, and it does recognize is after re-connecting it?

I started removing my shoes some time ago so I can feel the switches. It works very well!

I found that plugging everything in BEFORE booting up, AND shutting computer down before unplugging devices worked. I had several midi keyboards not recognizing because of that.

Nice , I’m playing without shoes for years now, to the amusement of orchestra and public; Left foot turns pages, right foot is to change state/song.

That experience I have as well, without the audio interface and midi keyboard attached no midi will find its way to Cantabile and I have to restart.

Like Corky, no problems here. For me, the FBV is plug-and-forget. Maybe I’m just lucky with USB devices.

I hope you have some nice socks like mine for that

Unfortunately, I don’t have socks that nice. Compression socks are not for show. :joy:
Bare feet work just as well, but they aren’t nice either, and they draw all the floor dirt.

Socks with holes,…:see_no_evil:. Barefoot is actually the best!

Oooooo! Now those are nice! No problem with toe jam on those.
I was thinking maybe piano keys on the toes would be spectacular.

My Floyd band mates always laughed at me about this, but also I prefer using foot controllers without shoes on, especially as my Roland FC300 has two expression pedals with little distance between them, and playing with footwear on always felt clumsy

Why did they laugh? It’s almost impossible to use both exp pedals of an FC300 (or FCB1010).

I guess it is not considered macho to go on stage with no trainers… And in some of the venues we used to play in as a four piece that would have been a health hazard - so I would slip my footwear off when I was seating myself

Surely it’s dangerous, at least in some venues.

Perfect strategy :slightly_smiling_face:
