Reason is now available as a cut down free version for Windows 10+ and Mac. It comes as a VST3 rack plugin that allows you to have the included instruments and effects as a single plugin. You can have multiples of each, inside the plugin, or just a single synth or effect.
There’s also a free DAW version, limited to 16 tracks, but it’s the type that’s oriented towards recording, like Reaper, which is not something I need or really understand how to use, personally, so I’ll probably just use the “rack” version.
You get a general purpose synth, called Europa, a bass synth called Monotone, a drum synth called KONG and what seems to be a ROMpler, called ID8, plus about ten effects plugins. The best explanation I’ve found so far of what you get is here:
