Program Change on RD-800 MSB/LSB/PC

Hi

Before I begin, I must admit that I don’t know much about MIDI.
In my RD-800, I have personal

presets (Live Set). There are 10 banks, and each bank has 20 presets, for a total of 200 presets. I would like to change the Live Set depending on the song in Cantabile. I use a UR-22 as a MIDI interface between the PC and the RD-800.
In the RD-800 documentation, there is a Sound List that shows the following values for Live Set A-05 (for example):
A-05: ‘an Old friend…’: MSB=84: LSB=64: PC=5
Can you tell me how I can load this Live Set into the RD-800 when I load my ‘Song’ into Cantabile?
Can you explain the correct procedure?
Thanks in advance.

in your bindings, you need to include the bank select commands shown in your first picture - to load your “an old Friend…”, you need to use banked program change 84.64.5

This sends the correct bank select commands first, then the program change

Thank you Torsten for your help . I try it (offline because I’m not at home) and I write 84.64.5 in “Program” but the number is automatically converted in another number 10816.5 as shown with the picture in attahcment. Is it normal that I can’t separate the MSB/LSB and PC ?

.. I must admit that I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of user support. The aim is not to bother you constantly, but to ensure that the product I intend to purchase meets my expectations. Thank you again.

I am not “user support” in any shape or form - just another Cantabile user

We help each other here at the forum.

The conversion you see is normal - that is the actual number of the bank. A bank is a 14 bit number - but since MIDI commands can only transport 7 bit values, bank numbers are split into their most significant bits (MSB) and their least significant bits (LSB). The bank number is then MSB * 128 + LSB

Cantabile understands the notation MSB. LSB.program, but converts it to bank.program

Thank you so much Torsten.

I am delighted to discover Cantabile, but I am equally impressed by its friendly and helpful community of users.
Thank you for your help.

Hello everyone,
I followed the latest advice, but the programme change is not working on my RD-800. I checked that there was communication on the MIDI output ports from the programmed bindings, and this is the case unless I have made a mistake (see attachment via monitoring). There are two possibilities: either I didn’t follow the instructions for creating the bindings correctly, or there is one or more settings on my RD-800 keyboard that is preventing it from receiving external MIDI signals. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m at a loss. Thank you in advance to the community for your help. Have a great day, everyone.

Please post a picture of the binding showing the details in it’s edit box for it and we’ll see what’s up. Your picture looks like it’s good but there must be a MIDI output route that’s not established from the UR22 MIDI output to the RD800 MIDI Input. For my RD2000 that uses the same binding I have an example here. The binding is inside a linked rack FWIW in the example.

It is also possible that the MIDI receive function is turned off in the RD800.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your help.
Here the pictures :

  • Routing
  • Binding 1
  • Binding 2

I saw also in the RD800 manual that maybe the midi receiver can be turn on or off but I don’t see where we can change it.

Thank you for your help

I’d say the next step is to ensure theRD800 is set up correctly so go the Various settings part of the manual and under the system settings locate the Live Set Control Channel. There you can ensure it is on and see what channel it is set to. Once that is done we will have more information to work with.

Hallelujah

The channel was 16. (see photo ‘System RD-800 Midi CH’).

Then I changed the channel to CH16 in the PC binding (Banked) and PC and there… miracle… my RD-800 responded.

I then noticed that it had loaded an unnamed configuration, displaying the rhythm and two sounds (Upper 1 and Upper 2) with no other information.

I thought it hadn’t loaded the right preset, but when I manually loaded LIVE SET A5, I realised that these settings were the same as those I had seen a few seconds earlier when I changed programmes.

Conclusion: It works. I’m delighted. However, the name of the Live Set is not displayed (or not yet, there must be a reason). I have to invest time to understand ;-).

So a big thank you to Dave and Torsten for your combined help! Very, very happy.
