Prevent instrument screens to pop up

I was used that a song would reopen as I had left it, that is: when I close it with the instrument screens off, it would start without showing the instrument screens. I do not get this done anymore, in some songs instrument screens keep popping up. How can I turn this off?

Hi all,

It is probably a stupid question and I am just overseeing something very basic, but I would be very happy with some help as I do not see how to get rid of it.

Hi @Joop,

Just a question: does your song use states? Are your plugins inside racks that use states?

I am asking because once I also had the same problem. Then I realized that the visibility of the plugin GUI is saved within the state. So if you have states, you should update them when the GUI is closed. Otherwise, each time the state is loaded, the plugin GUI will be made visible.

Gabriel

P.S. there is a flag in the state behaviour which controls if the visibility of the GUI is stored into the state or not.

Hi Gabriel,
thanks for your reply. I actually have states and racks, I did click away the GUIs many times, saved and they came back all the times. Now I opened the rack changed something, clicked away the GUI and saved the rack. Now the GUI’s stay away  . Apparently saving when you do not change anything doesn’t help. Learned another little bit.
thanks, Joop

Maybe you could check what saving option is selected in File->Rack Properties (when a rack is open). The option controls in what cases the rack is saved when unloaded and usually defaults to “Only on significant changes”.
I guess that’s why you had to change something in the rack in order for it to be saved.

As a side note about states, I want to have full awareness of when I change something. So I usually lock all my states, so that I have to explicitly update them (CTRL+U) to commit any change. E.g. when I try out different “Plugin snapshot” but I eventually choose to keep the one originally selected, the state is unaffected until I give CTRL+U, so the originally selected plugin is still the one saved with the state. The same applies to the visibility of the GUI. If I update the state with the GUI closed, it will store their visibility and, even if I then open the GUIs, the state will have them closed (unless I do CTRL+U when the GUIs are visible).

That is actually a very good advice! It won’t be the first time that tried out something and then lost my settings!

Not sure if this is actually what you want, but I have this binding in my background rack - it closes all popup windows, including instruments.

Another good advice! There is always something new to discover in Cantabile!
