Can anyone recommend one? A multi-channel no efx, no bells and whistles bog standard VST mixer? Free is nice, but a reasonable cost is okay too
Thanks

I think you could make your own, with a Cantabile 3 rack with your required number of inputs and outputs, with internal route gains controlling the channel faders and muting. Rack states could then provide mixer scenes. All free

Thanks Neil, but I have not got my head around a lot of the basic stuff, let alone āStatesā have not even looked at them yetā¦they seem WAY too complicated for me haha!
I found one searching onlineā¦howeverā¦ imagine you had one, letās say the mixer had 6 channels and two outputs. Assuming youāre using Cantabile for live performance, and assuming you only have two handsā¦ how would raise or lower the volume of one of the six channels if in the middle of a song you felt that channel was too soft?
OK, perhaps by chance youāre a keyboard player, it seems most Cantabile users are. You might say, I can play a couple bars with one hand, and use my touch screen to bring the volume up on the channel thatās too soft. [perhaps].
So hereās the dealā¦ the vst mixer I saw online, is actually morphing their software to become a vst host, like this one. Why? because pretty much by nature, Cantabile is mixer. Hereās how:
STEP 1: Create Six Different Racks, name the racks like this Channel One, Channel Two, Channel Three, etc.
STEP 2a: Set the input of each of the racks to its own Stereo In
STEP 2b: Set the output of each of the racks to the Stereo Out of the software as a whole
STEP 3: Go back or go to the song view, and take the Input (at the very top of a song) and create Six Routes, the blue Add Route button will do this. The Name/Source will be the same for all of them. The output, which is labeled Preset/Destination for each will be each of the Six Racks you created. So, under the Input youāll have Six Rows.
Iām guessing the input is a MIDI Keyboard. So as stated in Step 3, the Name/Source will be the same for all Six Routes you create.
There you go - how to create a six channel mixer.
You can open up each Channel (aka Rack) and put whatever vst effects you want in each.
In the song, under the āControlā label youāll see the sliders, each Rack will have itās own. Thatās where youāll control the signal going to each Channel (aka Rack)
This is one way to make your own mixer. Thereās other ways as well.
I made followed the steps I provided above to make a small mixer and the screen snapshot is below.
Hope this helps!!
Thanks, yes that is a pretty creative solution. I will have a go at recreating what you have done!
