I’m wondering if there might be a way to change the ordering of ports in the Monitor Panel. The current ordering is:
- Audio Ports alphabetically by name, then
- MIDI Ports alphabetically by name.
However, seeing input and output ports mixed is usually not what you need. If you’re looking for an indication of how “things” are going, the first focus is usually on whether they are Input or Output ports, then by name. I’m thinking this ordering would be more helpful:
- Audio Input Ports alphabetically by name
- Audio Output Ports alphabetically by name
- MIDI Input Ports alphabetically by name
- MIDI Output Ports alphabetically by name
or maybe even
- Audio Input Ports alphabetically by name
- MIDI Input Ports alphabetically by name
- Audio Output Ports alphabetically by name
- MIDI Output Ports alphabetically by name
The advantage of the second proposed option would be the visual delineation between input and output ports (because MIDI ports look different from Audio ports).
Could this possibly be done as a global option?
