Metronome count-in

Hi there,

I was wondering how to use the metronome for a count-in at the begining of each song? Is it possible or do you use a specific midi file for each song?

thx

sam

Hi Sam,

Metronome lead it currently isn’t supported except by making a MIDI file with the lead-in baked in.

That said, I’ve often thought about this but I think you’re the first, or perhaps second ever to have brought it up. I’d be interested to hear if others are interested in something like this.

Brad

Hi Brad,

Maybe it could be only a specific behaviour of the metronome, in the trigger page: when song start–>metronome plays–>before the first bar–>during two bars

You can do this already, using triggers and delays:

This starts the metronome immediately after loading the Song State (set this for the first state in the song only) and stops it after 4 seconds (which is 2 bars at 120 bpm)

Use this tool to calculate delay times when not using tempos like 120 bpm

No need for @brad to hard-code anything, and no need for midi files.

I use this feature to send MIDI tempo information to my external vocals delay at the start of a song.

Cheers,

Torsten

I love this site - so many great ideas flying around!! I’m going to do a variation of this metronome trick so that I can press a MIDI controller button on my master keyboard and it starts the metronome at the correct tempo for a pre-defined time. Superb, cheers Torsten!

Thanx, Neil!

I don’t really use Cantabile’s metronome - my LivePrompter has a metronome built-in (see top right here - the two circles blinking back and forth are my metronome) - right on top of my keyboard with the lyrics and chords…

Our drummer uses the same prompter program on his tablet, just with somewhat different content  - no lyrics, no chords, just song sections, breaks, etc. - but he also uses the metronome to stay roughly in the right tempo corridor - and he definitely doesn’t need Cantabile. That’s why I made the argument for not overburdening Cantabile with too many functions around lyrics / chords / leadsheets - horses for courses

But having the ability to automatically send MIDI tempo information to my effects unit to synchronize delay times to the song is also a great application of automation thru triggers. Cantabile is a powerful piece of software - I learn a new application of its features every day…

Cheers

thanks for your answer Torsten! great!
I’ll try this today !

Torsten, I’m finding Instaprompter but not LivePrompter on a Google search

Small surprise  haven’t put it online yet. Currently just my personal use - and my drummer’s. If there’s sufficient interest (and when I find a quiet moment), I’ll put together some documentation and put it online.

Cheers,

Torsten
