It takes a long time from hitting the ‘x’ before Cantabile actually shuts down. Is that normal? What is it doing during that time?
Not a complaint. Just curious

How long? 30 Seconds? 3 minutes? As long as Cantabile starts up without the error screen the next time, I believe all is well. I do know some of my sets take 90 seconds to load but shutdown much faster (<15 seconds is about what I remember). Seems that every time Cantabile has started up with an error screen, it’s been a plugin that failed while shutting down the previous time.
I just did a clean start. 24 songs 79 plugins. It took 45 seconds to shut down. I’m sure I have seen much longer. On really long ones, my background rack shutdown binding fails. I’m not sure if length was associated with a funky startup. I usually just let those start normally unless there is a specific, repeatable error. I will keep an eye on that.
I thought I saw a pattern based on how long it had been up and running, but I’m not sure. When I lose patience I kill it with task mangler. That guarantees a start up error popup.
I also have long shutdown with my setlists. Before I replaced IKM Pianoverse with Pianoteq, it was taking 75-90 seconds to exit Cantabile. Now it’s more like 45 seconds, which still feels like a long time. I use some pretty “heavy” plugins liberally, like Kontakt and Sampletank 4. In the past. Brad has analyzed my log file and concluded that Kontakt was the primary culprit accounting for the long shutdown time.
Just checked my system. Forty-Nine song set list with 224 plugins took 99 seconds for Cantabile to start-up and 5 seconds to totally exit Cantabile.
Thanks for that! Long startup time seems expected. I assume proprtional to number if plugins and samples being loaded. I wonder why my shutdown time is so long?
