Lead boost on solo

Hi, thanks for all the help setting up cantabile to date!

Im having issues creating a increase in volume for leads/ solos. I’ve added gain plugin’s and have tried the suggested fader settings however i cant get a decent boost. With the gain/eq’s plugins, when i raise the gain levels they produce a dry clip (even when wet).

Im using the solo version, apologies if this has been asked before but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

Hi @Monkeychunki,

we need some more details in order to be of help. What are you trying to achieve? An automatic boost? A boost which you can control with a button? Which plugin are you using?

On a general note, if boosting the volume produces clipping, remember that boost is more a relative than an absolute thing. Instead of increasing the volume in the solo, decrease it in the rest of the song. Make sure that the solo is not clipping. Its volume will be louder than the rest of the song anyway and you’ll avoid clipping at all.
You can increase the overall volume later on in the audio chain (for instance on the channel of the mixer of a PA system).

Hi @cdv_gabriel
I have the midi set-up now so that i can switch between racks/ plugins and i’ve got a free (unassigned) footswitch on my midi board which im looking to use as a toggle on/off. Ideally i wanted to add a volume boost to this toggle for lead/ solos to raise volume.

I dont currently have setlists or recordings set-up just racks under monitor view as elow

I’ve tried multiple plugin’s such as the mercurial TSC (TS808) and i cant get the volume to boost enough.

From your picture, it seems that you are connecting the NA808 (I guess, that’s what you are using as a booster) in parallel to the Tonex. I would expect the NA808 to go into the Tonex, to get the boost. At least that’s what I do when I use overdrive pedals.

What am I missing?

this is probably my naivety. I was hoping to run a toggle on/off gain outside on the tonex racks so i could boost each one of them from one footswitch rather than doubling up each tonex & using eight footswitches, if that makes sense.

If I understood correctly what you want to achieve, there is no need to use eight footswitches. You can connect the Main Microphone to the NA808 and the output of the NA808 to each of the Tonex INPUTS (like you already did for the Main Microphone, but going through the NA808 before the fan-like connections to the Tonexes). Then you use the footswitch to turn the NA808 on and off.

when i toggle off, it blocks the signal, i assume theres a way to bypass the plugin when it’s not running

thanks

i may have answer the above with this

Your idea (i.e. using the bypass switch) should work, though what I had in mind was slightly different

Here I toggle the pedal ON/OFF switch directly using the sustain pedal of my keyboard.
