Kontact Not Copying Between Computers?

I’m setting up a backup computer.

I did a normal install of Cantabile and my plugs.

I then copied my Cantabile data from one machine to the other.

Everything seems to have moved correctly EXCEPT Kontact.

Looks like Kontact did NOT copy successfully:

  1. Each rack that contained an instance of correctly contains an instance of Kontact.

  2. However each instance of Kontact is now empty.

Did I forget a switch on Kontact, the Song, or the Rack, (or all three?)\

Thanks

PS, one oddity is that the Shortcut Cantabile created on the desktop pointed to the x86 version, not the 64-bit version. I didn’t try to figure out why, I just fixed the shortcut and got on with things.

Not sure if I’m asking the super-obvious: did you also install the Kontakt content (samples, instrument setup) to your new machine? Cantabile doesn’t store that stuff in its song files…

Oh THAT’s interesting . . . So the samples are there, installed from the NI installer and in the sidebar where I should see them, including the third-party stuff from Scarbee.

Where does the instrument setup live by default (Win10)?

The Native Access folder is under C:\Users\Public\Public Documents

You can choose where it goes in Kontakt - I use E:\NI Content

Not sure why I used that folder name but there it is

I think you can copy the default folder over to the same location in the new computer

Torsten,

That doesn’t Quite look like the issue I’m seeing.

When I open Kontact ALL of my sample sets appear in the left hand sidebar as expected. So copying the c:\users\Public\Public Documents would copy all the sample sets, which isn’t the issue I’m seeing.

What I’m seeing is:

  1. All of my sample sets are where they should be on the sidebar.
  2. Nonetheless the rack itself is empty.

Is there one particular folder where all of my various Kontact racks will appear?

Not the samples, those installed fine, the populated racks.

Hmm, this sounds confusing. In your original post, you state that “the rack correctly contains an instance of Kontakt”; now you write “the rack itself is empty”. Can you be a bit clearer - maybe with some screenshots?

Originally, I assumed that your rack loads correctly, just no sound is loaded in Kontakt, but based on your last post, it sounds like Kontakt isn’t loading in the rack?

Some screenshots could clear this up.

Yeah, metaphors mixed.

I’m referring to the “Kontact Rack” . . . The visual display of an EIA rack within the Kontact window, rather than the Cantabile Rack…. (Right side of the screen)

Kind of like “Static” in c.

Within Kontact:

  1. Installed sample sets (correctly) appear open the left side of the Kontact window
  2. The right side of the Kontact screen (where I should see the sample sets I’ve added to the current configuration) is empty.

I suppose that means they’re Also absent from the Cantabile rack. Sorry.

So copying the entire directory containing ALL the sample sets seems wrong ‘cuz 1, but that still leaves me with 2.

  1. Am I missing a configuration on the SOURCE computer that’s preventing the Kontact configuration from being correctly stored with the Cantabile data
  2. Is there a particular subset of NI’s directory that needs to be copied from the SOURCE computer to the Destination computer.

So you’re saying that the Cantabile Rack containing Kontakt loads correctly, i.e. Kontakt as a plugin loads OK, but the actual configuration of Kontakt (loaded patch within Kontakt) does not load as it would on your old system?

This sounds like Kontakt not loading the configuration stored in the Cantabile rack correctly. Two key typical reasons for that

  1. different version of Kontakt between your old and your new system - if that is the case, it might be an issue of Kontakt not being able to read the stored configuration and simply starting empty

  2. different location of the Kontakt content - Kontakt might find a correct configuration info in Cantabile, but not be able to load it, since it can’t find the samples / instruments at the place referenced in the stored config

Not sure if these apply in your case, but definitely something to check; if only to exclude these potential issues…

Hmmmmm . . . Version might be the issue.

I’ll have time to fuss with it over the weekend.
