OpenGL has not been working with NVidia drivers since version 552.44 dated
May 9, 2024. This has affected Waves plugins and Kontakt 5. The workaround has been to use Mesa3D software rendering. This works but shifts the workload onto the CPU which severely limits things.
Cantabile Solo crashes on when trying to load Waves plugins. Kontakt 5 is getting on a bit but the latest Waves plugins versions should be OK. As you would expect Cantabile crashes if OpenGL rendering is selected in Options. Using the earlier driver solves the issue.
I don’t have such an old card around but I’ve also tried to track down a memory leak and after some e-mails with Brad I’ve discovered that Nvidia did something in drivers branch 566.xx and newer. By some internet search it seems Cantabile is not the only affected software and memory leaks are reported in other apps too with these newer drivers.
For my Quadro, 553.62 looks stable and the one I’m currently using.
There’s also 560.76 - (Jul 30, 2024) that didn’t look like it’s causing memory leaks but that is an older release and on the New Feature Branch vs 553.62 - (Jan 16, 2025) that’s from the Production Branch. If Nvidia didn’t fix this by now… I don’t know.
