"general MIDI" plugin recommendations

Hi all

Looking for a cheap plugin that can do “meat and potatoes” workstation sounds - winds, brass, strings etc. Doesn’t need to be flash, just for the odd fill-in for covers band duties.

I have nice plugins for electric pianos, B3 and synths which is the bulk of what I need, so it’s just all the other trimmings. Bagpipes welcome but not essential!

I’m envisaging mapping a handful to switches on my controller so I can easily toggle e.g. flute, harmonica etc while playing the bulk of the song on keys.

Thanks for any suggestions

Air Music Technology Xpand!2 is a good low cost workhorse.

Looks ideal, thanks @dave_dore

Alternatively, I can recommend Triton or Triton Extreme drom the Korg Collection. Lots of Bread and Butter, but also some very nice digital synth tones.

Thanks @Torsten - I had a look at the Triton plugin already, might be more fun - I never owned a Triton and feel I missed out so maybe this is my opportunity!

I can recommend HalionSonic. Very good “bread & butter” sounds, fast loading, low footprint.
It has a workstation approach, meaning you can load 16 sounds at the same time. Customize range zones and velocities.

It works very good on stage and i never had problems cutting through the mix.
