Feature request: numeric keypad enter as load song quick action

Hi @brad,

For performance it would be helpful to easily change songs using a numeric keypad. However, a full keyboard is required as the song quick action is mapped to the S key. Keyboard remapping is possible, but annoying as used by other applications. Likewise a programmable keypad is relatively expensive. Therefore would be helpful to have keypad enter as equivalent to S.

Is there interest in going further and make this customisable via hot keys? Then we could use other keypad keys for other things. Although I notice it currently doesn’t distinguish between the enter key and keypad enter.

Thanks, John

Hi John,
I’d guess you can organize this with bindings to your keypad?

Good call - I’ve just tried this and didn’t get anywhere as it does not distinguish between enter and keypad enter, and it appears that in quick action mode keyboard bindings are ignored. I might be missing something

It should react on the key, e.g. “6” or “1”, no Enter

To be clear I’m talking about quick actions e.g. you press 12S to change to song 12.

So, you want multiple key presses that make the change. I’d guess you need some programming for that and help of our die-hard experts,..

I don’t think you follow me. Cantabile already does this Quick Controller - Cantabile - Software for Performing Musicians. I’m just asking Brad to tweak the behaviour to allow Numeric Pad enter in addition to the S key. And of course asking everyone for ideas

I see, never use that,…
I would still think that it can be programmed with bindings, but have not a quick solution for you,

I use a programmable numpad by Cherry (not only for changing songs and song states). I needed no additional bindings - just put "s. S, t, T " to some buttons and you can switch songs (e. g. “34” followed by “s” → song 34 or only “s” /“S” for next / previous song. Same with “t” / “T” regarding song states.

Thanks, I was looking at this as an option, a G84-4700 I think it was. Only downside is relative expense of that compared to a generic keypad. But will probably go that route if Brad doesn’t want to do it, or no-one else comes up with a solution.

Yes, you are right; sometimes one can get it a bit cheaper. I use it for about six years now and it is very reliable and with quality buttons.
When I prepared my 3rd live computer that should replace my oldest machine at some point (Win 11) I contacted the developers due to a problem with the “CherryTools” software. It was solved very fast and now it works with Win 11 too. I even bought a second numpad.

In Tools → Options → Keyboard and Controls → Quick Controller you can customize which action the Enter, Space and Tab keys perform. If you have any other those keys on your non-full keyboard you should be able to use them for load song.

How did I miss that  Thanks @brad.

I’ve used this keypad for years:

And I use a program called AutoHotkeys to map the extras.
