Dexed FM DX7 synth VST, new version 0.9.4 released

The new version is much improved in the matter of EG timing ro the original. One day it will be perfect.’

Comparing Dexed VST virtual Yamaha DX7 FM Synthersizer and the real thing. The reak DX7 had a ~14khz Sallen-Key low-pass filter to scrape off the HF DAC noise. The emulation of the Dexed mkI setting does not implement the filter where as the ‘modern’ 24bit engine does not display the signal >= 14k. So in this respect Dexed .9.4 mkI setting is ‘dirtier’ than the real DX7. Using the OPL3 engine setting there was a raging party going on from ~15k onwards,.

No filtering of DAC noise.

Using 24bit ‘modern DAC engine’

Of course you can always roll your own favorite filter EQ on the bus or eat the dirt. (I can’t hear anything much over 8k anyway)

Thanks for sharing Peter. I just started trying this out 2 weeks ago. Very impressive. Do you know the change log for this version?

The EG fix is a god send. It was really really bad prior. Half the whinging about sound difference cake from that fault.

Another handy little resource for those of us that prefer to pass om John Chownings thesis.

Howard Massey’s book is another gem, as you will see by the price.
