Copying Kontact setups to new version?

After Manually recreating my Kontact setups when NI released a new version. . . It occurred to me to ask. . . .

Is there any way to clone a Kontact setup—the specific .nkis in the proper slots with the proper MIDI and output channels—Without having manually to recreate it from scratch?

Is there never a compelling reason to update Kontact?

Thanks

Depending on whether you’re worried about Storage, you can save the setup in Kontakt and have all of the samples duplicated in the new directory, making it portable.

To upgrade, or not to upgrade:

  1. If a new library comes out that requires a newer version.
  2. There’s some specific feature that you want for your own libraries, etc.

I’ve been using K6 for many years and am thinking about upgrading just because the newer versions have scalable UI, which 6 really doesn’t have. I often have to dumb down my screen resolution when putting together sample sets so I can actually see the settings.

Hopefully that helps…

Some new Kontakt 3rd party developers require v8. I run version 8 and 7 together without any problems. That way I can keep my 7 setups and add the new purchases in v8.

The last time I did it was going from version 6 to version 7. Actually I use Kontakt Player, not the full version. And somewhere in the settings there is an option to change version, but if I recall correctly it was on a per sing basis. It would be far easier if it could he done globally. At the time, hard drive space was at a premium and I wanted to avoid having two versions. I no longer have that problem, so I am running both versions 7 and 8 side by side, without trouble.
