He. Had no issues for ages - I have a permanent routing for my VSTs. PC has been off for a week, but on start up and trying to open Cantabile. I get a JSon Pars error at line 1 character 2 syntax error expected OpenBrace found EOF. Ive tried rebooting the PC. Ive tried deleting and reinstalling…
OK might be a license thing. Seems it updated to a version post my license expiry. I reverted to an old version and it opens - but all my routings are scrambled - and I cant get rid of dotted lines either - and they are enabled.
Hi @Paulmapp8306,
at first sight, it seems that some file has been corrupted on your hard disk. I don’t think that uninstalling/installing Cantabile eliminates all the files of the old installation. You usually do not want that, since you could have useful settings stored in your own files. Your personal settings (stored in json files) should be in your home folder, under
AppData/Local/Topten Software/Cantabile 4.0 (x64)
(the last part can be different if you use Cantabile3 or a 32bit system).
You could try renaming this folder to something like Cantabile 4.0 (x64)_backup
and try starting Cantabile. If it starts, there must be something corrupt in the settings folder. Otherwise, better involve @brad, the developer, into the discussion.

Edit: I had written my answer before reading your second message, which arrived in the meantime. BTW, dotted lines are there to show disabled routes.
Hum - half my vst (instruments and FX) are no longer being picked up - I have NO idea where they are on the OC. Thats why dotted lines. No idea why this should happen. My default template has gone - its bringing up a much oplder one - and as I say half teh VSTs arent being picked up. I cant addd them as I cant find where they are on my PC. Is there a way to literally scan whole drives for them ? I tried just putting C a J drives in the scan (2 drives in use) buit its not picking any up.
The list of the recognized plugins is contained in the plugins.json file, which should be in the settings folder I mentioned in my previous message.
A very simple way to open the Settings folder is from Cantabile. Select the menu
Tools->Open Settings Folder
Once you have opened that folder, you can go up one level (in the Topten Software folder) and check if you also have folders from other installations. Maybe the Cantabile version you are presently running takes its settings from one of the older folders. It could also be that some files have been corrupted. You can try to open the plugins.json file in a text editor (make a backup copy first!) and look for the names of your plugins inside the file. They should all be there, if the file is not corrupted.

It looks like you have a corrupt settings file like Gabriel said. I had the same problem after a few weeks with the PC turned off.
There should be a settings.lastgood.json file as far as I can remember. This might help.
Probably not… sounds like a corrupted settings.json file.
Cantabile never automatically updates itself - all updates need to be manually installed.
As described above, try going to the settings folder, delete settings.json and rename settings.lastgood.json to settings.json and try again.

IT support stepping in…do you have a “spinning” harddrive? My first hunch is you have disk/file corruption. Please backup and look into replacing the drive.
