Hi!
I’d like to try using a spare computer with Cantabile as a vst host in my home studio.
I’m wondering if Cantabile can act as a simple audio effects rack, receiving 4 channels of audio from my mixer’s aux sends, though 4 separate vst effects and back out through four separate channels to the aux returns. I have a 4-in/out Behringer interface for this machine, if you were wondering!
I do have some dedicated outboard hardware gear, but it would be fun to see how say a vst UAD Fairchild would respond. I’ll never ever own the real thing!
Thanks and BR
Hi @LouHela and welcome to the forum.
Yes, Cantabile is capable of receiving four channels of audio, processing them through VST plugins and send them back to your audio interface.
I have never done this myself, since I use a DAW for recording/mixing/etc and don’t have an external mixer anymore.
Be aware that processing the audio in a PC will add latency to the audio signals. The amount of latency depends on the size of the audio buffer you are using. The processed signals will be delayed by at least a few milliseconds with respect to the other signals. This could not be a problem unless you want to mix a processed signal with its non-processed version.
To avoid chorusing and flanging when mixing back the processed signals with the non processed ones, you could try delaying the non processed signals by the same amount. Anyway, the best you can do is try it yourself and see if it works for you.

Thanks Gabriel
The return signal will go to the mixing desk for monitoring, so latency isn’t such an issue.
I can manually nudge the recorded wav track back a very small amount if it needs tightening in the mix.
I’m also going to try Blue Cat and Gig Performer, so I’ll report back.
