Cantabile 4 cantabile song click

Hi
I have both Cantabile 3 and 4.
When I double click a cantabile song (xxxx.cantabileSong)
Cantabile 3 opens the song.
How to change it that only Cantabile 4 will open ?

Hi ly,

I have the same problem and checked the registry and there is no reference for Cantabile 4 files in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT only Cantabile 3 files. There is a conflict here that @brad should be tagged on to see what he thinks about how to approach correcting it. My opinion is that when Cantabile 4 is installed over Cantabile 3 that the defaults should change in the registry to reflect that.

Try this:

  • Right click on the xxxx.cantabilesong
  • Select Open with…
  • Scroll down and click on Choose an app on your PC
  • Browse to C:\Program Files\Topten Software\Cantabile 4.0
  • Double click Cantabile.exe
  • Select Always (open with this…)

This is for Windows 11. On Windows 10 the procedure is the same with minor differences. It works to me.

  1. Start the version of Cantabile you want to open files with (ie: Cantabile 4)
  2. Go to Tools menu → Options → Miscellaneous → File Associations
  3. Click the “Associate” button

I have already tried what you suggest but it did not work.
I have Windows 10.

Tried succesfully on a test PC running Win11, sorry. At least Brad’s solution is smarter than mine.

Yes maybe it works fine on Win 11
I also use your solution on other programs, and it works fine only with Cantabile it didn’t work.
