Can Cantabile Fire a 1 bar MIDI snipit

Can Cantabile playback short 1, 2, 4 bar MIDI file snip-it’s, or is it easier / better to use audio samples.

I’m talking with a drummer/vocalist, about doing “free form” covers that we can shorten or extend as required, for solos, sing along, crowd interaction etc. Triggering the MIDI from a mix of drum pads and foot switches etc.
