Lot’s of good summer concerts. For a small group it’s common to see someone using a bass drum pedal to bang out a beat.
The ones I found are usually standalone and expensive. I am looking for a usb version that I can use in Cantabile to trigger a bass drum vst. Anyone come across such a product?
You could use any momentary pedal on your MIDI controller and let Cantabile change the CC events to note events. You’ll only get a constant velocity with this, but for a running four-to-the-floor, this could work.
For more differentiated things, you’d need a trigger box, e.g. an eDrumIn or a Roland TM-2 with an eDrum kick pedal (e.g. Roland KT-10) to convert the stomps to midi.
The combo of TM-2 and KT-10 will cost you roughly 500 EUR, though…
There are cheaper simple kick boxes from Roland, Meinl et al, but these don’t do MIDI - they output audio directly. If you’re looking for cheap and cheerful, might be easier to use one of these and route them to the desk separately. The sound person will thank you for having the kick separately…
