BandHelper and Cantibile integration

We use BandHelper to organize our songs and I use BH as well to send program changes to my Nord Electro 6D. However I would like to expand my setup with VST’s running on a PC and selecting the a specific VST via BH. I think Cantabile is a great program to achieve this, but I ran into a few problems. I managed to connect BH running on a iPad to a PC via an iConnectMIDI4+. In Cantabile I see the incomming program change messages from BH. Via bindings I can connect program changes to plugins, but I don’t manage to select a specific plugin and at the same time deselect the other plugins. Is this possible in Cantabile Solo?

Hi Leo and Welcome to the Forum!

Without seeing your current bindings I can only suggest that you have multiple bindings for each plugin you want to use at a time. First a binding to change program then a binding to enable the plugin and then bindings for each plugin you want to disable. All the bindings would be triggered by the PG change you send. So if you had say 5 plugins you would need 6 bindings per plugin to perform the setup you wanted. This appears to the way to go since there are not states in Solo.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the solution! I was already thinking in the same direction but I thought there might be a smarter way to do it. I was also looking at the “MIDI route settings…” / “Only route when this program number is active” option but I can’t figure out how to do it. Does “program number” means “program change number”? Has Cantabile a reference manual?

Yes there is that feature but I have never tried to use it. The advice I gave was based on the fact you use solo and it has limits to what method you can use to achieve tasks like this but that doesn’t mean it’s the only way.

Yes, in the case of the “only route when this program number is active” it reacts to the last PG change number sent to that song via the MIDI input port that is routed to your VST’s.

Yes, both online and offline.

Hi Leo,

I checked out a similar setup on my rig and the idea you had of using the “only route when this program number is active” feature worked for me. Here is the song I set up for it

In the example if I send a PG 0 change to the Main Keyboard port it will enable only the 1st route. If I send a PG 1 change it only routes to the second VST and when sending a PG 2 change it only routes to the third VST.

Is this similar to your current setup configuration?

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the help! I managed to copy your approach to my Nord Electro-BandHelper-IOS setup. I can now link a song in BandHelper to a Nord-sound or a Cantabile song (VST-plugins) or a mix of both.

Regards,

Leo
