Audio engine stops with no reason

I work with build 3236 (the same happend with stable build 3232) and the audio engine stops randomly with no reason. Everytime I have to use the power button to make it work again. Please, I need urgent help with this. I am in the middle of a rehersal.

Hi! need more details.
What kind of computer, soundcard etc are you using?
Which instruments are active in this cantabile song/rack?
Is other sound related applications work the same way or not?

kind reagards

I’d enable all the log settings in Options, and look the log files when it happens - see if it says something that indicates why it might be happening.

Could it be a bad USB cable to your audio/MIDI hardware, if it’s external? Worth swapping them over if you haven’t already.

When Audio engine stops other sound related applications works fine

I try to find a log file which demostrates the problem

Thanks a lot in advanse

So other apps are trying to access the ASIO driver at the same time as Cantabile?

Yes. Until now this runs successfully. The crazy thing is that I work about an hour with no stops of the audio engine (I am trying to reproduce the problem and find it in the log file)

Sounds more and more like a dodgy cable to me - have you swapped that out yet? Wiggled your USB cable to see if you can make it happen?

I’m sure @brad will have a much better idea about this, but it looks like Cantabile is receiving a kAsioResetRequest message from the audio driver, which I believe usually happens when a driver needs to be reloaded, for example after changing sample rate or something. It looks like Cantabile deals with this reset but then can’t restart the engine, due to an error that looks like the hardware isn’t accessible.

It looks to my untrained eye like something external to Cantabile is triggering this. Have you updated your Yamaha driver recently? If this persists, you could try the ASIO4ALL driver.

Thank you Neil. I will make some test with drivers, cables and ASIO4ALL. Also I hope Brad have some good ideas.

Hi @jumpcut,

Sounds like an erroneous reset request from the driver. Try this:

  1. Go to Options → Diagnostics → Troubleshooting.
  2. Turn on “Ignore ASIO Reset Requests”.

Well, OF COURSE Brad thought to include “Ignore ASIO Reset Requests” for us!!!

Yes! I thought of that.

(or was it a customer with a crazy Steinberg asio driver that issued multiple reset requests per second)

Some time ago I tried running Ableton next to C3 which also produced such kind of crashes… so you should really try, quitting the other app that uses the ASIO driver.
