Audio Configuration Automatic Fallback?

I have several sound cards and I often find myself dealing with the error message when starting Cantabile

Could it be an interesting feature to be able to sort the sound cards and have a mechanism that automatically selects the first available sound card among those selected as usable?

Been discussed quite a few times, e.g. Suggestion: auto switch to default soundcard

But I would like that, too. Personally, I am now switching to same soundcard everywhere, so I “only” have the issue with no soundcard attached, while doing offline setup changes.
