Last night I fired up the setlist for my main band. GUI popped up and appeared to load the setlist. But that was it. Attempts at any action popped up hourglass forever. 2nd attempt gave the bleached out look. I was able to exit from the upper right corner with a Windows “not responding” message. It generated a report to Microsoft. Do these things actually go anywhere? No Cantabile reports, but it knew it shut down abnormally. I tried preventing audio engine, etc. on startup but always ended up in the same situation. A much smaller setlist for the Sunday morning band worked just fine.
I made a new setlist and started rebuilding one at a time. Problem seemed to be isolated to songs using Amplitube/Tonex. Thougn not all songs using those. I decided to try reinstalling Amplitube. IK Product Manager told me I had no internet connection, which turned out to be true. After restoring internet, the problem went away.
The no internet message also included something about my stuff will stop working within 72 hours. That’s pretty disturbing. I bought this. Not a rental. I’m also somewhat disturbed that Cantabile just froze. If I was at a gig with no internet I would be screwed.
I messaged IK support. Meanwhile, checking if anyone here has any insight.
I don’t have any insight, but I’ve been having a lot of these problems lately on my new laptop. Old laptop was also Windows 11, but I really only ever had issues with Roland Cloud (I still do, but I used to, too). Last show it happened on a song that I play guitar on, so the sound it was trying to load was a standard backup patch that had nothing unique in it - everything in linked racks that are shared with other songs that had no problems and the whole set list pre-loaded. And then it froze again on a different but similar song. One was a Cherry Audio and the other was the GSI VB3-II. They both go into a master rack that is shared by every song in the set. I have not for the life of me been able to mitigate it. I don’t believe any of the plugins (maybe the Cherry Audio) require an internet connection after the initial activation. But connecting to the internet seemed to fix it. I have no idea why. Build 4335, by the way. I suspect it’s a Windows issue, just because it’s so random and their updates have been very breaky lately.
Update - I think it was Dropbox. I keep all my Cantabile files in Dropbox folders for both backup and for working between different computers if needed. New Laptop did not retain Old Laptop’s settings for what folders should be available offline - so it might have been hanging on songs, notes, or presets that hadn’t loaded recently enough to still be on the hard drive.
Thanks, Sammy. I mostly convinced myself that it was Amplitube. Though not 100%. IKM support got back to me. Initially some confusion about demo version which did not apply. They asked if the stand-alone version also did it. A reasonable question. But I can’t answer it until it happens again. No Cherry or VB3 in the setlist. I’ll update if I learn anything.
