Alchemy causing crash on song load

So far I’ve just been working with Kontakt in my racks but today I installed Alchemy on my laptop and created a rack with it in. It works fine when I manually load the rack but, if I try to load a song with the Alchemy rack in as part of a set list then as soon as I select that song I get 'the module alchemy has caused a non-recoverable error and forced cantabile to shut down. I have sent a diagnostic report but wonder if anyone is having problems with specific plugins?

Update: actually it won’t load a song at all with the alchemy rack.

Are you using it with jBridge? I had a similar issue with M-Tron Pro which I was using with jBridge, and Brad thinks it’s a jBridge issue.

No all my plugins are x64.

Hi @carleden

Have you sent a crash report for this? If not send one through and include a comment so I know it’s from you.

I’ll do some tests here too. Logged it here.

Brad

I did send in a crash report under my maestro.eden email address. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,

Same problem occured when I tried to covert session file from V2 to V3.
So I sent a crash report.

Hi All,

Just wanted to follow up on this.

Try as I might (and believe me I’ve tried) I’ve not been able to locate a copy of Alchemy. It’s simply no longer available and all traces of Camel have been consumed by Apple.

I’m wondering if there’s someone here who’s willing to spend some time to help me resolve this, or even better sell or loan their copy of Alchemy to me. If so please get it touch.

Brad

Hi Brad,

I would be delighted to help however alchemy has been working for me since I updated Cantabile to 3020 (I think was the version number. ) I actually assumed you had five it as I haven’t had any further issues.

Carl

Oh really. That’s interesting - I certainly didn’t make any specific fixes for it, but there have been other changes.

Which version of Alchemy you’re running and are you running x86/x64 or bridged.

Brad

X64. But I need to add an extra sentence as my response isn’t long enough

ok. I too will add an extra sentence.

Oh, and I’m running the Windows version. The final one before Camel got sold off to Apple.

Same here, I can manually create a rack and load Alchemy, but I cannot open an existing Cantabile v2 song with Alchemy in a rack.

Sadly no, if you create a new song from within Cantabile v3 and add an Alchemy rack, when you close Cv3 and reload, it will crash just as with Cv2 song file. Darn, I use Alchemy in almost all my projects, would be great to have this fixed.

Alchemy is a thorn in my side. I’ve looked into this many times and never been able to find and rhyme nor reason to it’s behaviour - for some users it works flawlessly, for others it fails all the time. Personally I’ve never seen it crash on any of my machines. Given the consumption of it’s developer by Apple it’s hard to make any progress on this.

The best I’ve been able to figure out is that certain versions of Alchemy fail - I believe version 1.55.0.3368 works fine. It could also be that the reliability of x86 vs x64 is different but don’t have both editions to test with.

Of course all that doesn’t help much except to say anyone who’s having problems with it please email me a copy of your Alchemy.dll file and perhaps I can repro it and eventually fix it.

Thanks a million Brad, and will do, for me, I own all of the Alchemy libraries and it is my #1 goto synth for all my paying projects. Oh yeah, when it got sold out to Apple it blew my mind, especially the end of PC support, but I love my PC plugins and DAW so Apple ain’t happening. In fact, a client of mine “gave” me a Mac Pro to do his work, I gave it back to him after 2 weeks of hating the darn thing, LOL!

Also I confirmed there is no issue with the 32bit version of Cantabile 3 and Alchemy 32bit, just saved a song, was able to load back in. So this is only with the 64bit version of Alchemy.

On that note, what would I be missing if I use only the 32bit version of Cantabile, is it a big performance hit .v.s the 64bit host?

Hi @AzureCrystal

If you’re not pushing the limits of 3GB ram then there is very little difference between 32 and 64-bit editions. If you’re using lots of large pre-loaded plugins and using over 3GB RAM then 64-bit is kinda mandatory.

By memory usage I mean Cantabile’s memory usage - not the entire system
