same for me!
I probably veer pretty far from the beaten path, but l usually go with āNice Pianoā from Roland, and have Addictive Keys Upright. I like the sound l get from either, and since l play in a rock band, lām not too worried that it might sound (in some way) inferior. I figure the audience canāt tell the difference between a Steinway and a Fisher-Price, so if l like it, itāll be fine. YMMV, of course.
I still think the Yamaha EX5 āStereo Pianoā preset sound (tweaked to my taste) is one of the best piano sounds for a rock context that I have. After that for more a more refined delicate sound, the Korg Kronos SGX-2 (which is now available in VST form in the Korg Collection 6.
I would expect that @Torsten will use a separate amp plugin, but I maybe wrong.
OMG, this thread is ooooold - at that time, I was actually using guitar amp plugins (mostly S-Gear) after my Rhodes / Wurlies from Pianoteq.
These days, I play most of my ePianos DIād - my go-to instruments are VReeds and VTines by Acousticsamples. When I need a bit of dirt or that specific amp sound, these VSTi also have pretty good built-in options, so currently I donāt use separate amp plugins .
Cheers
Torsten
Ade here on the forum uses the free Anvil amp sometimes for his B3 patches. It probably would sound good on e-pianos also.
I was just curious, but will give it a try. Iām still on the Velvet Rhodes, also recommended by Torsten (2018,ā¦). I just got the complete Amplitube, possibly there is something interesting there too.
The Velvet VST is also still in my setup - mostly for those songs where a Rhodes or Wurly is part of a layered sound. Hard to beat the low CPU footprint of this VSTi
For more prominent uses of Rhodes and Wurlies, I now prefer the Acousticsamples sounds - IMHO among the most realistic and playable options out there
I have a number of sampled pianos and EPs from various package deals I have purchased. But after spending the $ for pianoteq, I have never looked back. And regaining all that disk space is an added bonus.
There are pretty good FX built in, but I have IKās amplitube, tonex, TrackS, and Arturiaās effects bundle if I want to go crazy.
I still use Acoustic Samples Rhodes and Academic Grand a lot. However, Iāve come to love Rhodes own plugins, especially the Rhodes Anthology (the V8 is also good) - they are expensive though. I also really think the Arturia Rhodes is good. The default preset along with outside effects sounds great and feels good.
If you need that LA Rhodes sound the Orange Tree Samples Kontakt instrument, āThe Famous Eā sounds very good.
