How do I add a plugin to the output of the media player?

Got an audio media file and I’d like to run it into a vst EQ and then out the main speakers. How could I do this?

Thanks

I have my EQ and compressor plugins together in a rack, and direct the output of items to that. The rack then sends from the eq and plugin out to main speakers. I call that rack “Processing Rack”.

I believe you can redirect your outputs from any media player to a rack as well. I’m not at the computer right now, but I’m fairly certain that is what I’m doing, as I route everything through that rack first on the way to the main speakers.

Is this what you had in mind?

Basic audio routing…

Thanks Torsten - yep that’s it exactly (re the media player) I read the manual but really cannot understand how I get the plugin on to the output of the media player. The only options I have are the main outs. The manual says I can do this but does not really give a step by step on exactly how to accomplish a VST output in the options section.

OK - this is one of the key concepts of Cantabile V3: you can (and mostly need to) manually connect inputs and outputs of all your plugins to each other and then (finally) to the main speakers. This concept is called routing. By default, most plugins, instruments or media players get routed directly to main speakers, but this is easy to change.

After inserting your media player, simply insert your EQ as a new plugin. Then, the stereo in for your EQ should become available as a destination. Now open the routes for your media player (click the triangle). You’ll see a default route from “Stereo Out” to “OutputPort - Main Speakers”. Clicking on the destination (Output Port - Main Speakers), you’ll get to choose from all available input ports - choose your EQ’s stereo in. Presto - you have re-routed the output of your media player.

This is also how you add an EQ to the output of a sample player or synth plugin or whatever - simply insert the plugin in your list and then connect the routes

This is really important to understand as the main difference between Cantabile 2 and 3. In Cantabile 3, audio flowed automatically down the chain of plugins (top to bottom). In C3, you can (and need to) wire things yourself by connecting outputs to inputs. But this is what makes C3 so powerful.
