Create a Media Player only rack?

Okay, I have backing tracks that have multiple individual tracks. To save me having to set up multiple media players for every song, is there a way I can create a media player only rack I can embed into songs? In this way I can have all the controls mapped and it will save an enormous amount of time needing to do it all on a song by song basis.

Thanks

AND - how do you keep the relative levels of each media player using a single knob? I have tried all the “relative” modes in the OPTIONS box, but all seem to alter the volume, yes, but they also bring all the media player gains back to the exact same level and lose the relative levels.

Thanks

That one is simple: route the outputs of all your media players to the input of one volume control plugin (FreeG or BlueCat Gain). Then control that plugin’s GAIN parameter via a binding. Now you can set your individual levels with the gain levels for each media player and control the overall volume with knob controlling your volume plugin.

Just think of it as a subgroup…

Torsten

Thanks Torsten, I think you have mentioned FreeG before…I will need to download it now I think haha!

After checking out the hoops at Sonalksis I will go for the free BlueCat suite! Seems like a nice little package.

Still looking for a reply to the first question though haha!

Hi @pax-eterna

You have two options here.

  1. Create a rack, put the media player in it, setup the bindings, and route the outputs to where-ever you need them. Downside is media players in racks can’t be synced and you’ll need to put every media file in the player which means the rack becomes a hard dependencies to every song.

  2. Put a fresh media player in each song and use the Media Player By Index binding to create global bindings that controls the first (or second, third) media player in the currently loaded song.

Right, so what I want to do cannot be done :frowning: oh well it is what it is I guess. I am already using option two, I was just hoping there was a quicker way.

Brad, is there some particular issue that prevents media players being synced in a rack?

No, but I’m not sure I’m really understanding the issue with a media player in each song file. You mentioned it was a pain to create the bindings each time, but option 2 should prevent the need for that. Am I missing something?

Yeah - but just for internal technical reasons that need work to fix. I probably will probably provide slave mode for rack media players at some point - but it’s not a priority right now (unless I can be convinced otherwise).

yeah it was me missing something haha - I missed your word GLOBAL…I am using option 2 but on a song by song basis, which is why I wrote I would have to set up bindings for each (up to five) per song…I had not looked at a global option.

What I meant by could not be done was a media player only “embeddable” rack.
