B5 Preset Changes Via Song States

I am having trouble getting Acousicsamples B5 to execute a preset change when I change song states. The UVI workstation will execute preset changes, but it will not pass them through to the presets on the organ in B5. I can also change B5 presets by pressing the lower keys in the upper manual like a real B3, however I want to create my own presets and have them accessible via changes in song states in cantabile. Any ideas?

You can right click on every drawbar, button, and setting in B5 and assign it a host automation. After you have done that, go to the state behavior plugin pane and select every host automation (which should have a name now that you have assigned them. You can select them all with shift/click, then press enter. Turn off entire bank. If you create rack states and treat them like presets, B5 will change sounds very smoothly. Here is a screen shot of what mine looks like:

Yes that worked very nicely. Thanks!

By the way, I layer VB3 and B5 together, and it is amazing! Dual stereo leslies and a big fat tone that cuts through anything.

I wish AS would do a demo version of B5. I may break down and get it at some point but I’m trying to penny-pinch and I don’t really want to grab it unless I think I’ll really like it. Pretty much every Hammond vst other than VB3 has disappointed me.

I just bought VB3 (loving it so far) and have been experimenting with putting them together also.

@FredProgGH

Saw this yesterday:

The B-5 Organ is available for purchase for just 49.99 EUR until Feburary 28th, 2017 (regular 99.99 EUR).
More information: VSTBuzz.com / B-5 Organ.

Disappointment on special for a few weeks!
:slight_smile:

Apparently on sale only through that website. Not offered on AS site.

So you don’t like it?

No not that, I was thinking of you buying it because it’s on special and being disappointed again.
I’m not really a Hammond or wurli guy. Reminds me of funeral parlours, despite House of the rising sun.

That’s a Farfisa lol Yeah, 50… EUR, not $$… I’m always searching for that perfect Hammond, like others are searching for the perfect piano. It’s a losing battle but hope springs eternal. The VB3 is doing a great job. It’s not the organ itself, that’s easy to emulate. It’s the Leslie cabinet. I may go listen to a bunch of B5 demos on Youtube now… and contemplate.

@FredProgGH

My comments about it are in several threads here. I bought it because I hoped it would be the next step up from VB3. IMHO, It sounds great when you are alone with it, but disappointing in a live situation. I have been experimenting, using @Andrew_Shorenstein ideas of combining it with VB3, and am starting to really like what I am hearing. I have always been a Hammond guy, and I was impressed by this VSTi…just not in a band situation. The rotary sim is not bad, but not as good, and present as VB3. It is not as user friendly as VB3, as you can see from the song states work around above. On my machine, it takes about 3-5 seconds to load another state of the plug, which is way too long in the middle of a song. It does respond to CC commands very quickly, which is the way I use it. I have tried other rotary sims, including the VB3 fx, with no big change. I would say that if you are a Hammond lover, like me, buy this at that cheap price I quoted, and hope the BIG update coming soon will correct the few things this plug lacks. That way you will get the update at no cost. ( I hope). I know the rotary is going to be changed, and user friendliness is supposed to be addressed. At the very least, it is fun to play alone, and works very well in recordings. My $.002…again.

This is the best video I’ve seen:

I’d second everything @Corky says here. It’s a nice plugin to have, but has some shortcomings in terms of control / live use, and also simply doesn’t have the attitude of VB3. I’m looking forward to using it in subtle situations on album recordings though - it has a certain glassy purity that contrasts nicely with VB3’s heavy creaminess.

Well there ya go. I’m going to hope for that update to VB3 to happen…
