Roland RainLink and OSC (Open Sound Control)

Hey @brad and anyone else,

I saw this article on a coming thing for live and studio music work from the co- originator of MIDI to replace MIDI called Roland RainLink Technology.

I have also seen articles on another standard called OSC (Open Sound Control), has anyone got any experience with this and will Cantabile support this OSC or Rainlink tech? (I’m looking at a keyboard of theirs that has it, so the questions arose).

Thanks in advance

Dave

From what I understand, the Roland “Concerto” wrapper for several of their newest instruments (the Tara piano & guitar, etc.) is already set up to exploit RainLink.

Still a work in progress from what I can tell.

thanks a lot! @terrybritton for the great post. The creator sounds excited and so am I (if not curious)

I’ve not heard of RainLink - I’ll check it out.

OSC has been on the todo list for a while but never risen to the top of the list.

I’m constantly amazed that for a butt-ass slow serial interface invented practically the Dark Ages in computer music terms, MIDI still seems to get the job done. Interested to see what the new protocols might bring to the table…
